Star of Hope International Donors Respond!
Rice, beans, cooking oil and roofing tin has been distributed to 550 families! The distribution went well without any significant problems. Our local partners are to be commended for the way they conducted the disribution. Marigot is one of the hardest hit communities within the forgotten victims area of Haiti. The Star of Hope International help was the first to reach the community. Thousands are asking for help, we had resources for only 550. Because of the tense situation Star of Hope Haiti requested security assitance from the UN and local Haitian police who provided escort security for the trucks carrying aid to the school and then security to help control the crowds desperate for help. Additional help is needed for this community in the coming days. The forgotten. Gustav pounded the southern part of Haiti doing great damage. The world was just beginning to take notice when Hanna created devistating floods that killed hundreds. The worlds attention has turned to that disaster. The people of the south are asking, what about us? Star of Hope schools in the effected area need help The government has pushed back the first day of school to October 6. The people in our schools will open, but it will be a difficult time. A damaged roof, water soaked documents and teaching materials are but a part of what they face. The bottom picture is from the school at Bois Negresse. This appears to be the most severely damaged school we work with. Even as they are cleaning up their own homes, the people are already trying to repair the school the best they can. |

The local community leaders are compiling the statistics. The devistation is enormous and help is needed just to assure survival .The people are not just waiting. They are repairing damaged roads, by hand, to make it possible for the outside to reach them. They are helping each other clean up and rebuild with what they have. Let's Help Them! |
